Rolling with the “Rebels” in Madrid (Spain)

I was invited to Madrid to tour the city with a traveling graffiti artist and culture-first photographer duo.

Every day was filled with: adventure, an adrenaline rush, spontaneous tagging, mysterious occurrences, and the random touristic experience.

Upon arrival, we rushed to the apartment; to prepare for a project reveal. I got a sneak peak of the new work (redacted artist's name) had been working on. This form of art was completely different from what I’d known them for, but I was intrigued nonetheless.

We made our way hastily to the city center (otherwise known as Puerta del Sol).

A massive “hard to miss” bear statue; is housed in the center; of the center.

Although I was captivated by this amazing monument; something else had my undivided attention.

(redacted artist's name) walked up to the gargantuan figure with a cheeky smirk on their face. At that moment, I knew exactly what their new work consisted of—a local prank.

The thrill seeker in me was gleeful and definitely enthusiastic about the outcome. The artist’s “new work” consisting of a sculpture; was placed discreetly beneath the statue.

I was in awe of the attention to detail and execution of this masterpiece.

We had to leave the vicinity; in fear of (redacted artist's name) being caught in the act. Although art (and impressionism) to us; what took place was definitely considered vandalism and defamation to the officials…

Instead, we watched from afar as tourists began interacting with the bear; many missing the new pile of dung that sat artfully under its posterior. The varying reactions were a comical thing to witness. Some people were in absolute shock and others were as amazed as I was; truly a sight to behold and well worth the suspense.

Things got even more enjoyable as I toured the city solo; snapping pictures, enjoying the beautiful weather, and trying authentic Spanish food.

Madrid absolutely spoiled me—the art (specifically street art), culture, and food were beautiful!
