INSIDE THE EVENT: Covering the Wu-Tang Clan Reunion for MTV UK: The Wrap Up (Recap)

I even met a guy at a New York Fashion Week (NYFW) event—he was in town from London! I noticed that the security guard was giving him a hard time, so I invited him into the VIP section to party with me for the night!

We hit it off! He had such a London vibe to him and made me miss home. “Let me get your number, I’ll invite you to some of the other events that I’ll be attending this week” I said to him!

We hung out nearly every day and became amazing friends after his trip! One day he randomly called me, to ask if I wanted to cover a story for him. He gave me the details, sent the tickets, and there I was at one of the largest arenas in NY—Barclays Center (The Barclays, if you’re familiar)! I was covering the Wu-Tang Clan reunion for MTV: UK!

That article opened many doors for me and helped to advance my media career!

Below is the official copy for the Wu-Tang Reunion. Although my copywriting has evolved since—it’s humbling re-reading my prior work dating back to 2014 (in this case).

With much anticipation for the Wu-Tang Clan reunion crowds formed to fill the entrance of the Barclays Center which exhibited a variety of fans, most noticeable were Wu-Tang & Dipset lovers who wore their fan apparel.

The lineup for the night was Dom Kennedy, Currensy, Dipset, Lil Kim, Bone Thugs-n-harmony, & Wu Tang Clan! However it wouldn’t be a true New York concert without a few surprises!!! Guest appearances included; Ron Browz, Maino, and Havoc (of Mobb Deep)!

Lil Kim dominated the stage! With a theatrical introduction (a video of herself & Diddy, a discography timeline which graced the screen, & Queen Bee flags which were displayed for her entire set). Lil Kim allowed Brooklyn to understand why she is the Queen Bee! She entered rapping the lyrics to her Nicki Minaj diss track, fully engaged the crowd, gyrated as much as she could, and amped the crowd whilst they assisted with her verses!

She gave us the Shmoney Dance several times throughout her performance & wrapped up her set with her very own ‘Hot N***a’ remix!

Dipset split their set featuring Jim Jones who rapped ‘Summer with Miami’ acapella, Juelz Santana graced us with his high energy, and Cam’Ron couldn’t forget the ladies with his ‘Hey Ma’ performance! What would a Dipset performance be without the Dipset Anthem? It wouldn’t be! Therefore they ensured that we repped our set!

Wu-Tang had a shorter set than expected but gave their fans as much of a show as they could with the time allotted. Tributing O.D.B with an appearance from Y.D.B (the son of O.D.B) who captivated the crowd with ‘Shimmy Shimmy Ya’!

Celebrities seen at the Barclays were; Ramona Arizzo & Karen Gravano (Mob Wives), Mike Zombie, James Earl (Actor),

The festivities continue into today with Art Exhibits, a Fashion Show, & Beauty Expos.
