A Citizen’s Tourist Diaries (London, UK)

I was born and raised in South London (and I’ve been living in New York since I was fourteen) back then my focus was going to school and being local. I also spent a lot of time in (or around) Surrey.

I rarely got the opportunity to explore London (otherwise known as the West End). So, I make it my duty to travel throughout the city like a tourist every time I go home.

Here’s what was on my London 2014 To-Do List:

  1. Spend time with family

  2. Hit the city (West End)

  3. Take photographs of London’s architectural beauty (focus on: older/historical fixtures)

After spending time with “the fam” I jumped on the Underground (formerly known as the London Underground) and headed into West London.

The picture ops in the city are limitless!

I found myself gravitating to the gold statue (situated in Queen Victoria Memorial) which illuminated the gloomy overcast sky. I was also drawn to the boundless gold accents; surrounding Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, and other historical sites.

A bonus was definitely the views from The London Eye.

Definitely an experience I recommend—only if you have patience to wait in line (amongst a plethora of tourists) and 45 minutes for the elevated experience.

Have you been to London before?

If so, where are your favorite places to visit?

If you haven’t been before, where are you interested in visiting when you do go?
